Abalone Diving

Sub-Surface Progression is a local dive shop that can provide information on current dive conditions as well as provide sales and rental of dive equipment.

Bicycling

Fort Bragg is a bicycle friendly town with lots of nearby parks and trails to ride. Old Fort Bragg Haul Road provides an easy ride for people of all ages, or for a more challenging outing, try the trails that go up and down the old logging roads in Jackson State Forest.

Birding

Volunteers from The Mendocino Coast Audubon Society lead regular bird walks at the Gardens, including a session for beginning birders on the first Saturday of each month.

Deep-Sea Fishing

The Fort Bragg Coast is a haven for sport fisherman, and many charter boats in Noyo Harbor offer deep sea fishing excursions. Many seasons are restricted, so check with local outfitters or the Department of Fish and Game for sport fishing availability.

Kayaking

Sub-Surface Progression in Fort Bragg rents kayaks for both ocean and river exploration and Liquid Fusion Kayaking offers both instruction and guided tours for river and ocean kayakers.

Horseback Riding

Fort Bragg has one of the last beaches remaining in the United States where horseback riding is permitted right at the ocean's edge. There are also plenty of forest trails and places to go horse camping at either Jackson State Forest or MacKerricher State Park. Bring your own horse or rent one from Ricochet Ridge Ranch.

Motorcycling

Highway 1 from Fort Bragg to Legget is one of the smoothest curvy roads around, just perfect for motorcycles. Day rides will get you to Avenue of the Giants, Highway 36, and numerous other routes that constantly make the "Best of" lists. Off road and dual sport riders will also find lots of trails to keep them happy.

Museums

Surfing

Mendocino County Surfriders - A good contact for more information about local surfing, the Surfriders is a local non-profit group dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the worlds oceans, waves, and beaches, for all people, through conservation, activism, research & education. (707) 962-0221.

Whale Watching

During the winter and spring gray and humback whales migrate along the Fort Bragg/Mendocino coast. MacKerricher State Park offers viewing spots from the bluffs, but for a closer look book a whale watching tour with one of the charter boat companies listed under Deep-Sea Fishing. During the migration seasons, daily charters are available from Noyo Harbor.
